Rectifier is a device which converts AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current). The process of converting AC to DC by using rectifier or diode is called rectification.
There are two types of rectification
1. Half Wave Rectification
2. Full Wave Rectification
A. Centre Tapping Method.
B. Bridge Method.

Half Wave Rectification:
In this method of rectification only one rectifier or diode is connected with circuit which rectify only one half cycle of A.C supply.

Full Wave Rectification:
In this method of rectification more than one rectifier or diode is connected with circuit which rectify both half cycles of A.C. Supply the full wave rectification can be obtained by following two methods of rectification.

A.Centre Tapping Method :
In this method of full wave rectification two rectifiers or diodes are connected with Centre tapping transformer in such a way that during one half cycle of A .C.supply one rectifier or diode will allow the current to flow in one direction and on second half cycle the second rectifier or diode allow the current to flow in same direction.

B.Bridge Method:
In this method of rectification four rectifiers are connected like a bridge with transformer in such a way that during one half cycle on half cycle of A.C. Supply only to diodes allows the current to flow in one direction and on second half cycle others two diodes allow the current to flow in same direction.
